Stefanos Diamantis, Professional Tennis Player

Stefanos Diamantis is 34 years old, born in Karditsa and started playing tennis at the age of 8. At the age of nine he took part in his first tournament, where he took first place. From then on he was consistently first in his category (up to 14 years old) in the Union Championship (Thessaly and Lamia) and among the 8 best in Greece. In ’99, at the age of 12, he travelled with the Union team to Los Angeles, where he stayed for a month for training and tournaments, in which he reached the top 4 of the competition. He continued to train and participate in tournaments in Greece and abroad (Los Angeles, USA and Salzburg, Austria) in under-18 tournaments, where he excelled there as well. By the age of 14 he had won 20 cups and as many medals, the age at which he decided to devote himself to his school commitments. In 2005 he achieved admission to the Athens University of Technology in the Civil Engineering Department. A year later he had a car accident as a result of which he was wheelchair-bound. Thus, he was forced to interrupt his studies and follow an intensive rehabilitation program. In 2011, after years of long hours of daily personal effort and fitness training, he decided to return to his favourite sport, tennis, now desiring a professional level and a livelihood at the same time. The fact that he is the only tennis athlete in Greece and one of the few in the world who has played in the championship as a professional tennis player contributed to this decision. From 2011 to date he has participated in world championships in wheelchair tennis and excelled in most of them, winning 56 trophies at individual level and 6 medals with the National Team.
