A key element of the Municipality’s policy is the coexistence and balance of 3 factors: the People, the Environment and the Economy, having as a priority the establishment of a sustainable, safe and healthy environment for the citizens.

The Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni has integrated the principles of Sustainable Urban Mobility at the core of its actions, aiming to develop the city in a way that creates a transport environment that is more friendly to all and does not burden the quality of life for residents and visitors. To achieve this, the Municipality completed its 1st Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in 2021, passing it through all the necessary consultation stages.

Moreover, since 2019, the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni has developed a “Long-Term Plan for Energy and Climate towards Carbon Neutrality – CTRACK50”, having already far exceeded the commitments made in the Covenant of Mayors for the 2020 targets and is expected to soon achieve the targets set by the European Union for 2030.

Regarding the accessibility of persons with reduced mobility, the Municipality has proceeded to the following:

  • an integrated network of sidewalks and walking routes
  • installation of SEATRACK system for accessibility in 3 beaches of the Municipality
  • Facilities for the entrance and access of disabled persons to all municipal buildings and services
  • special parking spaces for disabled vehicles

Planned projects

The Municipality expects to secure €18.9 million for the implementation of 24 interventions including:

  • the redevelopment and reconstruction of major avenues and roads in the Municipality
  • the construction of pavements and traffic islands
  • the development of a network of cycle paths 
  • the planting of 2.500 high-growth trees
  • the construction of playgrounds, skate parks and squares
  • the promotion of electromobility

Particularly in the field of electromobility, 20 charging points have already been installed, as well as the first charging station in the country, exclusively for electric vehicles for the disabled.
