Project name: Engaging citizens in the improvement of cycling with PING If you care!
Short abstract of the presentation: Exploring a city by bike is quick, cheap and healthy. And there is always room for improvement.
The PING if you care! Campaign, developed by Mobiel 21 and Bike Citizens, enables cyclists to immediately point out problems in the infrastructure and in their cycling experience. It gives them the opportunity to communicate and engage directly with the city government in order to make cycling more comfortable and safer.
Cyclists receive a Bluetooth button, the PING button, and the Bike Citizens app. Users track their rides by using the app and push the PING button whenever there is something to share: flaws in the cycling infrastructure, unclear signage, a conflict with another road user, the fear of dooring, etc.
And after completion of the trip, participants have the possibility to provide additional feedback via this app. They can do this immediately after finishing the route or at any later stage. In the next step, each marked spot can be edited by matching it with different categories. The marked locations and feedback are reviewed and set into correlation with the overall cycling data of the city. https://pingifyoucare.eu
